Where do I apply for Medicaid in the Bronx?
You can apply for Medicaid in the Bronx online at Access HRA, or at one of two HRA Medicaid offices. Rider Community is on the 4th floor of 305 Rider Avenue, open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Fordham office is on the 2nd floor of 2541-2549 Bainbridge Avenue, open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
In 2026, one person 65 or older can get Medicaid with up to $1,836 a month in income. That's $1,856 with the $20 the state leaves out, and savings can be up to $33,038. The same form checks you for the Medicare Savings Programs in New York. They can pay the $202.90 a month Medicare costs you, usually taken out of your Social Security check. To see how the two fit, read Medicare and Medicaid in New York.
Where can I get free Medicare advice in the Bronx?
You can get free Medicare advice in the Bronx from the Health Insurance Information, Counseling and Assistance Program (HIICAP), run by NYC Aging. Its two Bronx sites see people by appointment on weekdays. SHOPP counsels at 910 East 172nd Street, a temporary address, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. RAIN counsels at its Parkchester center, 1380 Metropolitan Avenue, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Counselors help you compare plans and apply for help with drug costs. HIICAP doesn't sell plans, and Pair Team doesn't either.

Who helps with care at home in the Bronx?
For help at home, NYC Aging pays a case management agency to cover each part of the Bronx. A case manager calls you, then visits to set up meals at home, housekeeping or help with bathing. Case managers don't charge for their time. Some services ask for a fee or a gift based on income, NYC Aging says. NYC Aging lists three Bronx agencies: SHOPP (718-542-0006), Presbyterian Senior Services (917-768-4557) and RAIN (347-346-9676). Aging Connect tells you which one serves your street.
NYC Aging's home care is for people without Medicaid. With Medicaid, call CASA North at 212-274-5043. It's the HRA home care office for the Bronx, though it sits on 125th Street in Manhattan. You may also be able to pay a family member through New York's home care programs.
Where can I get food help in the Bronx?
For food help in the Bronx, apply for SNAP online or at a SNAP Center in Crotona or Hunts Point. SNAP pays up to $306 a month for one person. For people 60 and older in New York, the income limit is $2,660 a month from October 1, 2026. See SNAP for seniors in New York.
For food right away, POTS at 2759 Webster Avenue has a food pantry and a dining room that serves lunch. Its staff can also help you apply for benefits. BronxWorks runs food pantries by appointment. Call its hotline at 646-596-1316 on the call day, because times fill up fast, BronxWorks says.
How do I get help with Con Edison bills in the Bronx?
In the Bronx, Con Edison sends both the electric bill and the gas bill. Start with HEAP, which you can apply for on Access HRA or at 1910 Monterey Avenue. Regular HEAP takes applications from November 2, 2026, for one person with income up to $3,563 a month. See utility bill help in New York.
Once a HEAP grant reaches your account, Con Edison signs you up for its monthly discount for 18 months. If you have a shutoff notice, its EnergyShare grant can pay up to $300 a year, Con Edison says.
What a Pair Team advocate does
In the Bronx, a Medicaid letter often comes with a Con Edison notice, or a court date. Your advocate makes the calls and follows up until there's an answer.
- Apply for Medicaid on Access HRA with you, or tell you whether Rider Avenue or Fordham is closer.
- Book a HIICAP visit with SHOPP or at RAIN Parkchester.
- Find the case management agency for your block and set up meals at home.
- Get your HEAP application in, then check that the Con Edison discount shows up.
An advocate is covered by Medicare if you qualify. It takes two minutes to find out.
