Where do I apply for Medi-Cal or CalFresh in Glendale?

You can apply for Medi-Cal or CalFresh online at BenefitsCal.com, by phone at 1-866-613-3777, or in person. The DPSS office here is at 4680 San Fernando Road. It's open on weekdays from 8 to 5, the county says. The same Medi-Cal form checks you for the Medicare Savings Programs. They can pay your copays and the $202.90 a month Medicare costs you in 2026.

For paid help at home, apply for IHSS by phone at 1-888-944-4477, and a social worker visits your home. See IHSS in California and Medicare and Medi-Cal together in California.

What do Glendale's senior centers offer?

The city's two senior centers serve lunch to people 60 and older, and you must book a seat at (818) 548-3778. Lunch runs from 11:30 to 12:30, daily at the Adult Recreation Center and on weekdays at Sparr Heights. The city also delivers meals at home to residents 60 and older.

Case management is for residents 60 and older who find it hard to live on their own. A case manager can help with rides, Social Security, help at home, legal questions, Medicare and Medi-Cal. Call (818) 548-3775, and ask for the brochure in English, Spanish or Armenian.

On the fourth Tuesday of each month, the city and the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank give food to people 60 and older. Get a number at the Adult Recreation Center after noon. Then pick up your food across the street at the Elks Lodge. Monthly food money comes from CalFresh.

Where can I get free Medicare counseling in Glendale?

For free Medicare counseling, book a volunteer at either senior center at (213) 383-4519. The Center for Health Care Rights, the county's HICAP, also helps by phone at 1-800-434-0222 in more than 230 languages. Counselors help you compare plans and find help with costs. HICAP doesn't sell insurance or plans, and Pair Team doesn't either.

How do I get rides in Glendale?

Dial-A-Ride is a curb-to-curb van for residents 65 and older, or younger with a disability a doctor confirms. To register, fill out the form online or call (818) 548-3960 for a paper one. Once you're approved, book at (818) 247-0691, from two weeks to one day ahead. A one-way trip costs $1.50 in exact change, and a trip to a city lunch site is free.

On the Beeline, people 62 and older or with a Medicare card pay 50 cents a ride. A 31-day pass costs $18.

If a disability keeps you off the bus, call Access Services at 1-800-827-0829. Your Access card rides the Beeline free. With Medi-Cal, your plan also gives rides to medical visits.

How do I lower my Glendale Water and Power bill?

To lower your GWP bill, apply online for Glendale Care. It takes up to $35 a month off your power bill while money lasts. Medi-Cal, CalFresh, Section 8 or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) can qualify you, GWP says.

If someone at home is 62 or older and your home makes under $13,950 a year, ask for the senior tax exemption. It drops the city's tax on your power, water, gas, phone and cable bills.

For gas, ask SoCalGas about CARE, which takes 20 percent off. Medi-Cal, CalFresh or SSI can qualify you, the state utility commission says.

For help paying a bill, PACE runs LIHEAP for Glendale. In 2026 it only takes people with a shut-off notice or service already off, the state says. See LIHEAP in California.

How do I get housing help in Glendale?

The Glendale Housing Authority's Section 8 waiting list has been closed since January 2001, the city says. For new senior apartments, join the city's Affordable Housing Interest List. Lists close fast: Parkview Glendale, 68 homes for older adults, took forms for three weeks in March 2026. See housing help in California.

What a Pair Team advocate does

In Glendale, a call to us about Medicare often comes with a GWP bill or a Dial-A-Ride form. Your advocate makes the calls and follows up until there's an answer.

  • Help you apply for Glendale Care and the senior utility tax exemption.
  • Help you register for Dial-A-Ride and book rides to your doctor.
  • Set up a visit with a city case manager or a HICAP counselor at the Adult Recreation Center.
  • Help you apply for IHSS by phone and get ready for the social worker's visit.

An advocate is covered by Medicare if you qualify. It takes two minutes to find out.
