Where do I apply for Medi-Cal or CalFresh in Pomona?

You can apply for Medi-Cal or CalFresh online at BenefitsCal.com, by phone at 1-866-613-3777, or in person. The DPSS Pomona office is at 2040 West Holt Avenue. It's open on weekdays from 8 to 5, the county says. The same Medi-Cal form checks you for the Medicare Savings Programs. They can pay your copays and the $202.90 a month Medicare costs you in 2026.

For paid help at home, apply for IHSS by phone at 1-888-944-4477, and a social worker visits your home. See IHSS in California and Medicare and Medi-Cal together in California.

Where can I get lunch and senior activities in Pomona?

Pomona serves lunch to people 60 and older at the Palomares and Washington senior centers, on weekdays. You need to book a week ahead, in person or at (909) 620-2324, the city says. The suggested donation is $3.25, and a guest pays $4.25.

For meals delivered at home, call the county's aging line at 1-800-510-2020.

For free groceries, go to Inland Valley Hope Partners at 1753 N. Park Avenue, in First Christian Church. It serves Pomona from Monday to Thursday, 9 to 2, and gives a few days of food once every 30 days. Monthly food money comes from CalFresh.

Where can I get free Medicare counseling near Pomona?

For free Medicare counseling, book a volunteer counselor at the Joslyn Center in Claremont at (213) 383-4519. The Walnut Senior Center has one too, at (909) 598-6200. You can also call the Center for Health Care Rights, the county's HICAP, at 1-800-434-0222, in more than 230 languages. HICAP doesn't sell insurance or plans, and Pair Team doesn't either.

How do I get rides in Pomona?

Get About is a door-to-door van in Pomona, Claremont, La Verne and San Dimas. It's for people 65 and older or with a disability. Register online or at (909) 596-7664, then press 0. Book your ride one to seven days ahead at (909) 596-5964. A ride costs $2.75 each way, or $3.75 to places farther west. Vans run 8 to 5 on weekdays and 8 to 2 on Saturdays.

On Foothill Transit buses, people 62 and older or with a Medicare card pay 75 cents with a reduced fare card. Access riders ride free.

If a disability keeps you off the bus, call Access Services at 1-800-827-0829. With Medi-Cal, your plan also gives rides to medical visits.

How do I lower my power, gas and water bills in Pomona?

To lower your power bill, call SCE at 1-800-655-4555 and ask about CARE, which takes 30 to 35 percent off. For gas, ask SoCalGas about CARE, which takes 20 percent off. Medi-Cal, CalFresh or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) can qualify you, the state utility commission says. If you already have CARE, you don't need to reapply with Pomona Choice Energy, the program says.

If you're on CARE and owe SCE $500 or more that's at least 90 days old, ask about its debt forgiveness plan. Each bill you pay on time wipes out a twelfth of the old debt, up to $8,000, Pomona Choice Energy says.

The city sends the water, sewer and trash bill. If you're behind, call Utility Billing at (909) 620-2241 and ask for a payment plan.

For help paying a bill, Long Beach Community Action Partnership runs LIHEAP for Pomona ZIP codes. Money is short in 2026, so it's only booking homes whose power or gas is already off. See LIHEAP in California.

How do I get housing help in Pomona?

The Pomona Housing Authority takes Section 8 applications only during set periods, which it announces in the local paper and online. Names go on the list in the order they come in. There's no way to know how long the wait will be, the city says. A voucher from Pomona is for a home inside Pomona city limits. For questions, call (909) 620-2368 or visit City Hall, Monday to Thursday. See housing help in California.

What a Pair Team advocate does

In Pomona, a call to us about Medicare often comes with a Get About form or a past-due SCE bill. Your advocate makes the calls and follows up until there's an answer.

  • Help you register for Get About and book rides to your doctor.
  • Help you sign up for CARE and ask SCE about its debt forgiveness plan.
  • Book your senior lunch or a HICAP visit in Claremont.
  • Help you apply for IHSS by phone and get ready for the social worker's visit.

An advocate is covered by Medicare if you qualify. It takes two minutes to find out.
